Beyond Compliance: Creating Inclusive Menopause Workplace Support
- Member Only Event
Menopause affects people in every type of workplace. Nine in ten say symptoms affect their work and one in ten leave their jobs because of what they are experiencing. Many do not feel supported and many do not recognise their symptoms as menopause at all. The result is silence, fear and a real impact on confidence, attendance and progression.
From April 2027, the Employment Rights Act 2025 will require employers with 250 or more staff to have a Menopause Action Plan. Many organisations still do not know this is coming. Even fewer understand how to make sure support reaches people in real roles and real environments.
The Menopause Charity provides trusted information. We work across communities, workplaces and health settings to improve understanding of menopause and aid the conversation. Our insight shows that people are still scared to speak, psychological symptoms are often misunderstood and those with the least power in a workplace are the least likely to ask for help. These issues are seen across all sectors and all job types.
During the session we explore:
· The reality for employees today, including fear of judgement, lack of awareness, barriers for non-desk workers and the needs of those facing greater health inequalities.
- What the 2027 Menopause Action Plan requires and how the principles can support organisations of every size.
- What good support looks like, including confident managers, inclusive information and a culture where people feel safe to speak early and seek help.
By the end of the session you will understand the challenges people are facing, the gaps that still exist and the practical steps organisations of any size can take now to improve support and strengthen workplace culture.

Navigating Finance with Complex Income: Solutions for Business Owners

Business owners often have complex income structures and may draw relatively modest salaries. This can make it more challenging to secure finance through traditional mortgages, and some lenders are cautious about providing borrowing for business-related purposes.

- Raising funds for business purposes secured against a primary residence
- Understanding different income structures, including salary, dividends, directors’ loans, rental income and pensions
- An overview of short-term, FCA-regulated lending products, including cases where income or affordability assessments may not be required
- Typical timelines for arranging funding
- Consideration of projected future earnings
Scott will also look at wider applications of specialist lending, including options for purchasing a new home before selling an existing property, and considerations for older directors seeking short-term borrowing.
The session will include interactive elements, with case studies and practical examples to illustrate different scenarios.

This session gives Greater Manchester businesses a practical, no-nonsense view of where AI is already delivering ROI—think productivity, customer service, forecasting and smarter decision-making and where it’s creating reputational, legal and operational headaches.
We’ll share real examples, quick-win frameworks, and “red flag” scenarios to avoid, including data privacy pitfalls, hallucinations in customer-facing content, and automation that quietly damages culture and trust. Expect a balanced discussion, clear do’s and don’ts, and a checklist you can take back to your team to prioritise the right projects now.

Cash Out With Confidence – Turning Business Value Into Family Security After an Exit
- Member Only Event
Many business owners spend years building significant value on paper, but far fewer feel clear or confident about what that value will actually mean for their lifestyle once they step away.
In this practical and engaging session, we will explore the key financial decisions that arise before, during and after the sale of a business.
The focus is on helping founders translate an exit valuation into real-world outcomes: sustainable income, financial security, and a clear plan for what comes next.
We will cover:
- Why business valuation is often very different from the number founders have in their head
- How to define what you truly need from an exit (not just what you could get)
- Turning sale proceeds into sustainable long-term income
- Common mistakes owners make when moving from running a business to managing personal wealth
- How to balance opportunity, security and flexibility after a liquidity event
- The importance of aligning financial decisions with life priorities beyond the deal itself
- How the money can have a positive impact on your family post-sale.

Navigating Finance with Complex Income: Solutions for Business Owners
- Business Development Event
Raising capital for HNW business owners and entrepreneurs quickly with complex income, using primary residence – exploring alternative finance routes for business owners and entrepreneurs.
Business owners often have complex income, and may only draw modest salaries. That can impede them from raising finance via a traditional mortgage and many banks are reluctant to provide mortgages for business use.
In this seminar Scott Clay, Director or Private Clients at Together, explains how they support business owners, entrepreneurs and HNW clients;
-Raise funds for business use secured on primary residence property
-How they can get comfortable with complex and tax efficient income using salary, dividends, directors loan drawings, rental income, pensions and much more
-Short term FCA regulated lending products that require no income or affordability assessment
-How they can provide regulated funding in days, not months
-Getting comfortable with projections of future higher earnings
Scott will also explore some other uses for specialist lending, including how business owners can purchase their next home, before their current home sells to avoid being stuck in housing chains and to put themselves in pole position to win their next dream home. He will also discuss options for older directors seeking to borrow funds short term age up to age 85.

Beyond EBITDA: Reframing a brand like you mean business
- Member Only Event
Brand is often the last thing founders think about before an exit – but investors often see it first.
This session makes the case for brand as a powerful commercial lever: one that shapes risk perception, builds growth confidence, and ultimately moves the dial on valuation. The central provocation is simple – two businesses with identical EBITDA can command radically different multiples. Why?
Brand strategist James Summerscales of Influential opens with a keynote on what it means to build a brand that is genuinely fit for purpose – authentic, coherent, and far more than a logo.
James is then joined for a moderated discussion with one of the leaders of Manchester’s private equity community for a conversation on the role brand plays as a valuation multiplier, exploring it as a risk reducer, a growth accelerator, an exit narrative tool, and a marker of revenue quality.
The session will also examine why businesses choose to reframe themselves – whether to support a new growth strategy, move from founder-led identity to institutional credibility, consolidate after M&A, professionalise the proposition, or transition from challenger to category leader.
For anyone in the room asking “if our brand disappeared tomorrow, how much would our valuation change?” – this session is where that conversation starts.
Please note that this event is reserved for members only.

Review of the north west M&A funding market
- Member Only Event
Our panel of local funders will each give their views on the state of the funding market for M&A and growth capital in the North West.
What impact have the various ‘external shocks to the system’ had in the last 12 months and how will the legacy of these events affect the funding market in the next year and beyond?
We’ll explore whether supply & demand for M&A funding in the North West are, in the panel’s view, in balance. Do the panel feel that the range of available funding fits the specific needs of the market in the north west?
Who are the new entrants to the North West market during the last 12 months? Are there still gaps?
Is the North West self-sufficient or do business owners and advisers in the North West still need to look to London for funding?
Why are transactions taking longer and what can be done about it?
We’ll ask the panel for their predictions for the next 12 months.
Questions from the audience are invited in advance, and on the day.
We expect a lively debate on a subject to which all M&A advisers and funders can relate.

Date TBC – not published on cvent / WP – Illuminated Heritage: Why the Craft of Neon Glass Bending Still Matters
- Member Only Event
Neon sign making is one of the UK’s most distinctive yet endangered crafts. Once a defining feature of high streets, entertainment venues, and urban nightlife, the craft of neon glass bending has steadily declined as digital and LED alternatives have become dominant.
This short educational event offers an insight into the skill, science, and cultural importance of neon glass bending, through a live demonstration and talk led by an experienced practitioner.
Attendees will be guided through the fundamentals of how neon is made, from heating and shaping glass by hand over a flame, to understanding how gas and electricity combine to produce light. The demonstration will highlight the high level of skill, precision, and tacit knowledge required — skills that take years to master and are now held by a rapidly diminishing number of craftspeople in the UK.
Beyond the technical process, the talk will place neon within a broader context relevant to a wide professional audience. Neon signage has played a significant role in shaping the visual identity of cities, contributing to placemaking, night-time economies, hospitality, and cultural landmarks.
The session will explore why these traditional skills matter today — not only as heritage crafts, but as part of a wider conversation about sustainability, skills retention, and the value of human-led making in an increasingly automated world.
Attendees will gain a deeper appreciation of how endangered crafts intersect with business, place, and cultural identity.
By combining live demonstration with discussion, this session aims to raise awareness of neon glass bending as a living craft, encourage informed conversation about the protection of specialist skills, and highlight the importance of preserving the craftsmanship that has helped define the character of British cities.

AI is already in your organisation. The question is who is governing it?
- Member Only Event
AI isn’t coming. It’s already here. And most leaders are stuck. Not because they don’t care, but because they don’t know where to start.
How do you move forward without breaking trust?
Without damaging your culture? Without taking risks you can’t see yet? That’s what this session is about. It’s not a technical workshop. It’s not about hype or fear. It’s about leadership responsibility.
We’ll look at how AI changes power, accountability and judgement inside your organisation. What should stay with humans. What machines can support. Where you need to stay involved.
You’ll leave with three things:
- Greater clarity on where AI fits in your business
- A calmer way to make decisions
- Better questions to ask your team
This isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about feeling confident enough to lead without feeling rushed, exposed or left behind.
If you’re a leader who cares about fairness, team experience and long-term value, this is for you.
Session designed for board directors, NEDs and Trustees. Also relevant for CEOs, MDs and senior leadership teams.

From Offer to Impact: Getting Onboarding and Probation Right
- Member Only Event
Hiring a new team member is one of the biggest investments an employer can make—and managing their probation period well is key to protecting both performance and culture. This practical, hands‑on session equips employers / managers with the confidence and tools to guide new starters through probation in a way that is fair, structured, and aligned with the values that make their organisation unique.
With the upcoming changes to employment legislation, enabling employees with six months’ service to claim unfair dismissal, it’s never been more important to get how you do recruitment and probation right.
Through real‑world examples and easy‑to‑apply frameworks, participants will learn how to set clear expectations from day one, provide meaningful feedback, identify early warning signs, and document the probation process appropriately. The session also highlights how to support new employees so they can integrate smoothly into a team, maintain morale, and contribute positively to the workplace culture.
By the end of the training, attendees will understand how to balance legal responsibilities, good people management, and the realities of employing people and running an organisation —ensuring that probation becomes a powerful tool for growth, not a source of stress.
By the end of this session, employers / managers will be able to:
- Set clear expectations for new starters from day one, including goals, behaviours, and cultural fit.
- Structure an effective probation period. including check‑ins, documentation, and fair processes.
- Provide constructive, timely feedback that supports development while maintaining accountability.
- Recognise early warning signs of performance or conduct issues and respond confidently and appropriately.
- Promote positive integration by helping new employees adapt to the culture and dynamics of a team.
- Balance fairness, legal considerations, and your needs as an employer / manager to make informed decisions at the end of probation.
- Use probation as a tool for strengthening team culture, rather than disrupting it.

Lead the Change: Why Men Matter in Inclusion
- Member Only Event
Join us for an honest, thought-provoking panel conversation with men and women sharing real experiences of allyship, workplace change, and the barriers that still exist. Expect practical insights, candid discussion, and space for your questions – whether you’re sceptical, curious, or ready to act.
Gender equity isn’t a ‘women’s issue’ and it isn’t something for women to tackle alone. When men are involved, progress is accelerated because we often hold the positions and influence to make change happen. For ourselves as well as for others.
Whether you want to work in solidarity alongside your female coworkers to change an unfair system, or you want to take on issues that affect men at work – from paternity leave to career stereotypes – we’re calling on you to get active.
As some 80% of leaders and 60% of line managers, men are brilliantly poised to make change happen in their workplaces. If you’re curious about how to get involved in inclusion as a man, or whether you ‘can’ or ‘should’, this event is for you.

Mark will also demonstrate typical feedback that you can expect a public body to provide to you, whether successful or unsuccessful. Future Corporate Leadership Development: Practical Approaches to Progress Ethnic Minority Talent into Senior Leadership
- REG
Why attend?
Many organisations are working hard to improve ethnic minority progression into senior leadership, and many are still not where they want to be.
What happens when talented managers hit middle management and stall out? Organisations lose potential. Talent disengages. And diversity strategies remain just that – strategies on paper.
This session creates space for a candid, constructive conversation about what corporates are doing now to shift the dial, what challenges remain, and what meaningful progress can look like over the long term.
Who should attend?
It’s for people who can and want to change that reality: senior leaders and line managers who sponsor progression, HR, DEI and L&D professionals designing the systems, and ethnic minority managers ready for the next step who want their organisations to match their ambition.
We’ll have a frank, practical conversation about:
- Building progression pathways and improving retention beyond manager level
- Burnout, barriers, and the impact of limited progression opportunities
- Target-setting, accountability, and the long-term work of culture change
- Involving lived experience meaningfully, without exploitation
Key takeaways:
- Concrete ideas you can apply to your own leadership, talent and DEI plans
- Sharp questions to take back to your board, exec or leadership team
- Better language and frameworks to talk about race, progression and power in your organisation
- Cross-sector insight into how different sectors are tackling the same progression challenge

Communication 2026: Are We Still Talking
In an age where AI, automation, and digital platforms are redefining the way we connect, communicate and collaborate – has real communication become a lost art?
Join us for a lively panel discussion exploring how technology is reshaping the way we interact inside and outside the workplace. From HR and leadership perspectives on team dynamics and hybrid communication, to marketing insights into how brands are cutting through digital noise – and a reminder that business still happens best between people, not robots.
Our panel of experts will unpack:
· The evolution of communication in the workplace – what’s been gained and what’s been lost
· How AI and digital tools are transforming brand storytelling, marketing, and engagement
· The skills the next generation of communicators need to thrive
· Why human connection and face-to-face interaction still matter more than ever
Expect thought-provoking conversation, tangible takeaways, and perhaps a new appreciation for the power of simply talking.

How spaces shape culture, community, and connection – beyond the desk
- Member Only Event
Join us at Campfield, one of Manchester’s most iconic buildings, for a breakfast panel discussion exploring how environments shape culture, connection, and belonging.
In a hybrid world, culture is no longer shaped by attendance alone, but by intention. The spaces that a business chooses – and how they are used – play a powerful role in how employees connect, collaborate, and feel a sense of belonging. From where teams work, to how leaders create moments of interaction, the built environment has become a strategic tool for reinforcing values, enabling choice, and strengthening community.
We will be bringing together a panel of leaders from people, design, and community to share insights and stories on how to:
- Create inspirational spaces that support company culture, attract employees and increase productivity.
- Strengthen company culture by creating shared experiences that people want to be part of.
- Shift from attendance to intention, focusing on why people gather, not how often.
- Design experiences that feel purposeful, inclusive, and worth the time.
Start your day feeling inspired with stories and ideas of how companies are creating environments where people want to show up, belong, and do their best work – a must-attend session for anyone shaping culture in the workplace.

Workplace Leadership for a Healthier, More Productive Greater Manchester Workforce: Live Well, Work Well
- Wellbeing Champions
Join us for a focused one hour session exploring how organisations can better support leaders while strengthening workplace wellbeing across Greater Manchester.
This event brings together a carefully selected panel of experts to provide a balanced and practical discussion on the realities of leadership today and its impact on workforce health and productivity.
The session will begin with an introduction from a representative of Live Well, who will outline the organisation’s 10-year strategy. Greater Manchester’s Live Well strategy isn’t just a public health ambition; it is also a workforce productivity and retention strategy, with employers acting as critical delivery partners. This introduction will highlight what Live Well offers employers including tools, referral pathways, and community partnerships, and how businesses can use these resources to reduce health related barriers to work, integrate wellbeing strategies, and realise financial and organisational benefits. This will be followed by a chaired panel discussion.
The panel has been intentionally designed to reflect a wide range of professional perspectives. Experts from HR, legal, medical or therapeutic, and wellbeing backgrounds will share insights from their fields, ensuring the conversation is inclusive and multidimensional. Together, they will explore the pressures leaders face, the legal and organisational risks involved, the mental health considerations that cannot be ignored, and practical steps organisations can take to strengthen workplace wellbeing and leadership capability.
Throughout the session, panelists will draw on real world experience of implementing leadership and wellbeing strategies. Attendees can expect honest reflections on challenges, lessons learned, and measurable outcomes. Particular emphasis will be placed on equipping managers with practical tools, training approaches, and structured support that can be applied immediately within their own teams.
The event is designed as a safe and constructive space to acknowledge the demands placed on leaders and to explore meaningful, sustainable solutions. Participants will leave with actionable insights and greater clarity on how to build stronger support systems that promote both effective workplace leadership and long term workforce wellbeing across Greater Manchester.

- Skills
Part of the Sales Geek x Pro Manchester training series, Objections aren’t roadblocks, they’re stepping stones.

Online Training: Coaching Yourself and Others – The Power of Questioning Skills
- Skills
As a coach, I see the power of coaching conversations but often work with leaders and business people who have fallen into a habit of telling rather than asking. This might be quicker in the moment but often stilts growth and development – we might think of it as the very opposite of empowering people.
In this interactive workshop, Cath will introduce some basic coaching techniques that will enable you to hold coaching conversations with others in your organisation. And there will be plenty of time to practise the techniques in pairs and small groups and a push to become a better listener.
These techniques allow team members to communicate more effectively but also to access ideas that otherwise might not be expressed, and to overcome barriers that might be holding back progress.
A greater awareness of different questioning styles and, indeed, the power of silence can also be extremely beneficial in conversations with existing and potential customers, suppliers and other stakeholders.
Finally, but importantly, knowledge of these techniques also allows anybody to become their own coach. They feed into the development of the habit of reflection and help you move from the accidental to the strategic in your own career or business.
Attendees will leave with practical tools that they can deploy immediately to improve communication in their working lives.

Member testimonials
Pro Manchester is more than a network, it is a community! A community which is connected, engaged through events. It has year on year transformed the Manchester business community, by offering opportunities to ethnic minorities and a meaningful step-up for the those early on in their career and bringing businesses together! If you are not in this network, get signed up, it is an opportunity you don’t want to miss.
Dr Amna Khan
Senior Lecturer in Marketing specialising in Consumer Behaviour and Retailing at Manchester Metropolitan University
From the moment I first connected with pro-manchester, I felt genuinely welcomed. Their warmth, integrity and commitment to building a stronger North West business community shines through in all they set out to achieve.
pro-manchester goes far beyond simply connecting people as real, lasting relationships are formed when collaborating with the team. It’s a space where you feel supported not only in business goals, but in your personal growth too. You benefit from the team’s creative vision, their innovative approach and their genuine belief in the people they work with. That kind of environment doesn’t solely open doors, it empowers you to walk through them with confidence and clarity.
Through the panels, committees and events I have been a part of, I’ve not only expanded my network but also found allies, collaborators and friends. The conversations are thought provoking, the collaboration is authentic, and the ripple effect of their work extends far beyond the event.
pro-manchester is much, much more than a network; it’s a catalyst for progress. I’m proud to be an ambassador and to champion the incredible work they do, supporting and inspiring businesses while shaping a future that we can all be excited about.
Alex Clapp
Founder of Claritee Group Ltd
Pro-Manchester is like having a secret business ninja in your back pocket, picking up subjects that support businesses and growth, promote the region, and showcase the best of Manchester. Every place needs a Pro-Ninja!
Andrea Winders
Head of Inward Investment for Life Sciences and Healthcare at MIDAS Manchester’s Inward Investment Agency
What I love about Pro-Manchester is how genuinely welcoming it is. The events always feel very purpose driven, so it’s easy to meet people and learn from different perspectives! The panel discussions are brilliant, with really interesting topics and well-represented speakers.
The opportunity to speak to large audiences at events like Trailblazing Tech, while building a company in my twenties, has been an amazing experience. The community is not only welcoming and supportive but also exceptionally well-organized and professional.
Caroline Welsh
Operations Director at Leafyard
As a relative newbie to the city of Manchester and its business community, pro-manchester has provided me with an invaluable networking starting point to build my professional network and relationships. My involvement with the pro-manchester corporate finance committee has given me and Bermans excellent exposure and the opportunity to have an insight and understanding of the ongoings and developments in the Manchester CF community. The quality, variety and volume of networking events pro-manchester hosts is second to none.
Laura McMorland
Partner at Bermans
Pro-Manchester has been a fantastic partner for NetZero.co.uk. Their network, events, and insights have connected us with like-minded businesses across the region, helping us share our vision for a low-carbon future. Having been office neighbours, we know the team well and their professionalism and passion for supporting Greater Manchester’s business community shines through in everything they do, and we’re proud to be part of it.
Mark Hammond
Founder at Net Zero
As a representative of Finance Isle of Man and Fintech committee member at Pro-Manchester, I can confidently say that this network has been instrumental in building meaningful business relationships across Greater Manchester and beyond. Pro-Manchester provides an exceptional platform for professionals to connect, collaborate, and create genuine opportunities for growth.
What sets Pro-Manchester apart is its commitment to fostering authentic business relationships rather than superficial networking. The quality of members, the calibre of events, and the genuine spirit of collaboration make it an invaluable resource for any business looking to establish a strong presence in the North-West.
From the Isle of Man perspective, Pro-Manchester has been crucial in helping us bridge the gap between our island’s financial & professional services sector and Greater Manchester’s dynamic business ecosystem. The connections we’ve made through this network have led to real partnerships and tangible business outcomes.
I would recommend Pro-Manchester to any serious business professional looking to expand their network with purpose and integrity.
Paul Blake
Senior Financial Services Executive at Isle of Man Department of Enterprise
